COIDA (Workmens Compensation Fund)
All employers who employ one or more part time or full time employees must register with the Compensation Fund. In terms of the Act an employer should register with the compensation fund within seven (7) days after the first employee was employed. Employers are protected against civil claims if employees get injured on duty or contract Occupational Diseases. Employees who are injured on duty or who contracted occupational diseases can claim compensation for temporary or permanent disablement according to the degree of disablement and death.
Reasonable medical aid expenses arising out of an injury on duty are payable for a period of two (2) years or longer if further medical treatment is needed and if it will reduce the extent of disability.
It is crucial that employers register with the fund and submit annual return of earnings to maintain a status of goodstanding with the fund. Read more
Department of labour
All employers are required by law to register with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and contribute towards the fund if you have employed people for more than 24 hours per month.
The monthly contribution for UIF is two percent of your worker’s gross salary per month. You must deduct one percent of your worker’s gross salary per month and you as the employer contributes one percent. For Department of Labour registration please click here.
